What are decorative mouldings?

Decorative mouldings are profiled trims you apply to walls to add structure, depth and elegance to your interior. They're ideal for anyone who wants to dress up a space without major renovation work. Unlike traditional mouldings, which are often heavy and tricky to install, Velida offers a modern solution: flexible mouldings on a roll, with a powerful adhesive strip called Flex Mouldings.

Our Flex Mouldings are designed for wall use and can be applied in straight lines, frames or even arches. They're paintable, bendable and suitable for almost every room in your home.

What's the difference between wall mouldings, ceiling mouldings and Flex Mouldings?

Wall mouldings

Wall mouldings are applied directly to the wall. They're used to create decorative frames, wainscoting or panels and are ideal for adding structure and rhythm to a room.

Ceiling mouldings

Ceiling mouldings, like cornice mouldings, are traditionally applied at the join between wall and ceiling. They give a room a finished, classic look and usually require more experience to install.

Velida Flex Mouldings

Velida Flex Mouldings combine the visual effect of traditional decorative mouldings with modern ease of use: lightweight, flexible, self-adhesive and paintable. Thanks to the bendable material, you can effortlessly curve them to create clean lines, arches or organic patterns.

Materials and finishes

The look, durability and installation of decorative mouldings depend heavily on the material you choose. Below you'll find detailed information about which materials exist, what you can expect in terms of installation ease and why Velida Flex Mouldings stand out as a smart, modern solution.

MDF mouldings

MDF is sturdy and paints well. Especially popular in classic interiors, but it does require some skill. During installation you'll need to cut precisely, glue or screw in place.

Plastic (polyurethane) mouldings

Plastic is light and moisture-resistant. Ideal if you want mouldings in the bathroom or kitchen. Even so, installation still requires separate adhesive, precision and preparation.

Polystyrene (foam) mouldings

Foam is very affordable and easy to work with, but the end result often looks lower quality. The material also damages easily.

Wooden mouldings

Wood gives an authentic, premium look. This classic material is sturdy and stylish, but requires plenty of installation work: sawing, gluing, drilling and careful finishing.

Plaster mouldings

Plaster has traditionally been the most classic material for decorative mouldings. While plaster mouldings look stunning, installation requires plenty of specialist craft and experience.

Velida Flex Mouldings: The Smart Choice

Velida Flex Mouldings combine the best of both worlds: the stylish look of classic decorative mouldings with modern ease of use. Thanks to the integrated adhesive strip and flexible properties, installation is quick, simple and stress-free. You don't need experience, special tools or glue.

If you want a fast, easy and high-quality solution, Velida Flex Mouldings are by far the best choice. They deliver a stylish result without the complex sawing, gluing and precision work of traditional mouldings.

Inspiration & applications

Velida Flex Mouldings are designed to spark creativity and self-expression. Here are a few popular applications:

Mouldings in the living room

Give a plain wall character by creating symmetrical wall frames, for example around a painting or as a full accent wall. Combine with paint in a tone-on-tone colour for a calm, premium look.

Mouldings in the bedroom

Create a calming atmosphere by placing Flex Mouldings behind the headboard of your bed. Or use round shapes for a playful accent. Wainscoting halfway up the wall is also a popular choice.

Mouldings in the hallway or corridor

Narrow hallways instantly look more refined with horizontal mouldings that visually lengthen the space. Arched shapes around mirrors or doors are also popular applications.

Step-by-step: install decorative mouldings in 6 easy steps

Installing decorative mouldings is easier than you'd think:

  1. Prepare the surface: Make sure the wall is clean, dry and free of dust.
  2. Mark out: Decide on the pattern and lightly pencil in guide lines on the wall.
  3. Cut to size: Cut the Flex Moulding with scissors or a mitre cutter.
  4. Apply: One person holds the moulding taut while the other sticks it down calmly and straight along the line.
  5. Press firmly: Press firmly along the entire length so the adhesive strip bonds optimally.
  6. Finish & paint: Touch up any edges with caulk and paint the moulding in the colour of your choice.

Why Velida?

Self-adhesive & flexible

Our mouldings (or flex mouldings) are flexible, 6 metres long and have a strong adhesive strip. You can easily attach them to smooth walls, concrete, painted walls and woodΒΉ.

Affordable design

At Velida you do not pay for complicated installations of semi-finished products or (unnecessarily) expensive materials.

You get high-quality Flex frames with a luxurious look, for a fair price.

Easy installation

Flex frames are super easy to attach. The material is sturdy but easy to cut with skirting board scissors.

Mark out, cut to size and glue.

All you need is a spirit level, skirting board shears and/or a set square for straight lines and well-fitting corners.

Velida recommends painting the Flex frames after installation for the best effect.

FAQ: Velida Flex frames & installation

Not difficult. Thanks to Velida's self-adhesive Flexlijsten, you can get started without experience, glue or tools. You only have to mark where the Flexlijsten should go, cut to size and stick. We do advise to paint the Flexlijsten for the best effect.

Yes. The frames are equipped with a high-quality adhesive strip that ensures long-term adhesion, even on smooth plastered walls or renovation fleece. Make sure that the surface is free of grease and dust.

Once you have pressed the molding firmly and the shape has become final, we do not recommend pulling it off again. The adhesive strip is very strong and ensures long-lasting adhesion, but can leave marks on painted walls when removed.

Absolutely. All Velida Flex frames can be painted over with wall paint. This way you can fully integrate them into your interior colour or create a beautiful accent wall with a tone-on-tone effect.

During application you can still carefully correct the Flex list. We recommend that you first lightly draw the line with a pencil, so that you can follow the molding straight and tight.

For the best result, it is best to do this together: one person holds the Flex list under tension, the other presses it precisely against the marked line.

Once you have pressed the molding firmly and the shape has become final, we do not recommend pulling it off again. The adhesive strip is strong and ensures long-lasting adhesion, but can leave marks on painted walls when removed.

Our tip : Take your time when marking and applying. Then it will be right the first time and you will enjoy a neat end result for years to come.

Yes, that is precisely the strength of the Velida Flex frames. Thanks to the flexible material, you can effortlessly apply round shapes and arch decorations without sawing.

Velida Flex frames are basically designed as a sustainable interior upgrade. But do you still want to remove them? You can, as long as you do this carefully and in a controlled manner.

Important: Always pull the moldings off slowly in sections. Start at one side and pull gradually, without jerking. This prevents damage to the wall or paint layer.

With firmly pressed frames (especially after a long period of time), the adhesive strip may adhere so well that paint may come off when removed, especially on vulnerable surfaces such as thin layers of paint or untreated renovation fleece.

Our tip: If necessary, warm the molding slightly with a hair dryer (lukewarm) before loosening it. This makes the glue a little more flexible and reduces the chance of damage.

Do you want to be 100% sure of damage-free removal in the future? Then first test on an inconspicuous piece of wall or choose to mount on well-painted, smooth surfaces.
